What do you think of the title I've chosen for my upcoming autobiography? Seriously, I could not think of a better way to summarize my first week back at school. The first day is always the worst, of course, and I'm proud and happy to report that I only had one student in each class of 20+ have complete meltdowns. Both of them were boys and only one of them actually got upset enough to barf. He was standing near the door crying into his hands when I suddenly looked up and saw his lunch dribbling down the wall. Good times. It was the first time the first week has ever lasted five days for us, at least so long as I've been teaching, so I was pretty wiped out when I got home on Friday night. Can you say "Big fat nap?" All in all, though, I think the week went well. The kids are smart and extremely cute this year and many of them seem to have very cooperative and involved parents. I think it will have served us well to be in school for an entire week, in fact, because they really had the routines down by the time Friday finally reared its lovely head.
Saturday we woke up late and had eggs, bacon, and toast for breakfast. Then my mother-in-law and sister-in-law came over to see D's beautiful floor (finished Monday night!) and the other things we've done in the house over the past few weeks. The four of us piled into Zippy and drove to the other side of town to The Dump on I-45. That place was cool, much nicer than we expected. We found the rug featured in the above picture, which is exactly what I was searching for! The whole search/find/purchase process took a total of 25 minutes-- helps to know what you want! We came back to the house, figured out the padding and rug situation, then took a little nap together on Big Red (couch) until it was time to get ready for Momma D's birthday dinner at Pappa's. Greek salad, Mahi-mahi with Alexander sauce, and strawberry cheesecake- yummy!! After dinner D drove me over to K's for her girl's night birthday celebration and we played Taboo. I made the prediction that I would win. Sure enough, my team was victorious! I was a pretty good clue-giver, if I say so myself(and I do.) I could have won hundreds if "Password" was still on the air!
Today we went to church, followed by the new member class. That was fun and we left with a good feeling. My parents came over for a visit and to give us some gardening advice. Their departure was immediately followed by yet another nap on Big Red.
So, that's our week! I had a request for a picture of Zippy from my cousin Jen, so I'll close with that and another picture of Otis T. Dog chillin' on the couch with his Daddy. Awwwww!

You were at The Dump and didn't stop by my house for a visit?! I live near the Dump (if not in the dump depending on when the cleaning lady comes)
