So Close!

D has come within 2 pieces of quarter-round to completing the floor! He had only ONE piece of the flooring left when he was finished, and he really only needs one piece of quarter-round but is going to buy 2, just in case. He did an awesome and very professional-looking job and I am so proud of my hubby, but he has advice for anyone else who might be inspired by his do-it-yourself endeavors: save your back and legs and pay to have the stuff installed! Anyway, I say "Yay, Sweet D for saving us a bundle of cash and getting the project done in less than 2 weeks!" I love my task-oriented, Type A Poo bear!

You could say the Gods were not smiling on us as much this weekend. Saturday we drove down to Galveston in the pouring rain to visit members of my dad's side of the family at the beach house they rent every summer. When we got into Galveston, we decided it would be rude to show up starving and expecting to be fed, so we stopped at this place on 61st called the Cajun Greek because we were both jonesin' for a gyro and fries. We get our drinks, order our food, and wait as the heavens screamed and wept all around us. One thunder clap/lightning strike sounded like it struck the laundromat next door! The rain falls. We wait. The thunder rolls. We wait some more. By the time 35 minutes had lapsed, we decided to ask the waitress how much longer our food would be. Did we get an apology and an assurance that our meal would be out shortly? Oh, no. We got a smart-aleck teenager telling us that we "obviously didn't notice on the menu that this is not a 'fast food' restaurant and that it takes a really long time to..." Yeah, we didn't even let her finish before we walked out. The weirdest part is that this place has a DRIVE-THRU window!!!! Anyway, we award the Cajun Greek in Galveston NO Stars and may God have mercy on their souls. Our Jack-in-the-Box meals were both tasty AND fast.

We got to the beach house around 1:15. I hadn't seen my cousin Leah since she got married during the fall of my sophomore year in high school! Now she has three really sweet little boys. I really enjoyed catching up with her and my aunt Miriam. My Aunt Sarah, Uncle Johnny, and cousin Christa also showed up with Christa's two cute boys and a ton of yummy food-- deviled eggs, homemade pimiento cheese and guacamole! MMM-mmmm! Along with the de-lish roasted veggies Aunt Miriam made, C was in culinary heaven! It was a good thing we had to leave soon after the rest arrived, or they woulda had to roll me out to the car. We were home by 7 and calling it a night by 11. Ahhh, boring married-life goodness!

Today was low-key but productive. Long John Silver's (their new catchphrase: "Yarrrr! Genius!" is one of our favorites right now) for lunch after church. I know what you're thinking-- eeeewwww! Fried fatty yuckiness! But have you tried those Parmesan-crusted fish bites yet, matey? I would absolutely walk the plank for those tasty little guppies. Home again to let D finish the floor while I lounged for a bit with a magazine in the WT pool and then commenced a laundry- and dish-athon. Last count was five completed loads(4 clothes, 1 dish). It's almost 9 PM now and I am gearing up for a very early bedtime. I am (not) looking forward to a 5:30 wakeup call because tomorrow is the first day of school. We had "Meet the teacher" on Friday and I ended the day very excited about both the kids and the parents I'm going to be working with this year. I'll let you know if that's still the case after tomorrow. Crying and screaming and puking, oh my!

I'll end with a very cute picture of me n D that I took using the automatic function on my camera during our one-night stint at the oh-so-swanky San Luis Hotel in Galveston, which was the night before we left on our honeymoon cruise. Awwww!
