Not sure why I didn't start this at the beginning of the summer to chronicle all the exciting goings-on around the R household. I'll give you a sample, just in case you feel cheated: currently, on the eve of the eve of the always oh-so-exciting start-up meeting at school, I am still in my PJs. That's pretty much been the status quo all summer: waking up in time to watch Martha Stewart (I am a sucker for being made to feel inadequate by ex-cons) while enjoying some yogurt with 2 tsps. of wheat germ. This is followed by any number of activities that don't involve leaving the house to face the stifling Houston humidity and up-there temperatures, such as checking out what's for sale on ebay that I absolutely can't live another week without, finishing thank-you notes leftover from the April nuptials, reading any number of magazines and books, having a float in the WT pool, etc. etc. until Sweet D gets home from work. Of course you understand why this summer has been thusly named, "The Summer of the Diva."
Okay, there have been a few memorable moments. I shall list a few:
-Friend T giving birth to baby girl LMG last Thursday morning! She missed her due date window of July 28-31 and they were planning on inducing Thurs. afternoon, but little one suddenly decided she was in a hurry, after all. Shout out to T for experiencing a completely drug-free childbirth experience. I'm glad it was fast!
-Planting a herb container garden with JenyB and her mom and hanging out with Miss F on their living room floor. Not long after I got the aforementioned container garden home, my Italian parsley was pillaged by some thug monarch butterfly caterpillars.
-Spending some quality time with cousin J and her girls, C and E, cutest twins in Texas!
-Visitors J and son E, cutest 2 1/2 year-old in Texas, and sharing a cookies n' cream milkshake at the Chick-fil-a.
-Making peanut butter cookies and pedicuring with my buddy, K.
-Making new friends at C's (hubby of cool Kat) surprise 30th birthday in June, made even better by the fact that my marinated cheese and sausage dip were huge hits!
-Mini-adventure to Brenham with Sweet D.
-Eating out with the in-laws four times in a week(thanks again, D & D).
-Decorating the master bedroom and ordering furniture for the casa.
-Making 'six weeks muffins' that only lasted 5 days.
-Watching movies and generally being goofy with Sweet D.
And, last but certainly not least:
-Purchasing my very first car with Sweet D, who braved the heat and salesmen schtick to get us a great deal on Zippy, my Toyota Highlander!
Okay, back to reality. Friday begins the push to get geared up for the school year and I am not exactly looking forward to moving classrooms again, although the move means I get a much bigger room that's actually within the Kindergarten wing. Kids start on August 21. Our school district is one of the last ones to start this year, which means our holiday breaks are going to be a complete joke.
Okay, it's past noon and I have only checked two things off my to-do list. Gotta get crackin'!
Will try to have pictures on the next post!
